I used my primary research (pictures I took myself with my
cannon camera) and secondary research (pictures from Pinterest, google etc.) in
my final piece. One of the birds, the moon, the tree stump, the flower, the
bird cage and the branches are taken from my primary photographs. The flying
birds, silhouettes & word ‘freedom’, grass and background are from
secondary images I found online.
I got ideas from my primary research and from the main artist
I researched ‘John Banovich’. I researched him because I love the detail and
colour in his work. His drawings and paintings are very realistic and detailed –
I used these ideas in my final piece and drawings in sketchbook and tried to
make them look as realistic as I can. My own style is similar to this artist
anyway, which is one of the main reasons I chose to research his work.
I used acrylic paint for my final piece because I think that
is best to use on a canvas and it is bold & textured. Acrylics make it easy
to do detailed painting that look realistic and the texture is what makes it
stand out. I also love that you can build up the paint/colours on top of each other
and it dries quickly.
The branches with the Robin sitting on them, the flower and
some of the grass is in the foreground of the painting; I tried to make these
the most detailed images in the painting. The moon, flying bird, silhouettes &
word ‘freedom’, tree stump, sky and rest of the grass is in the background so I
tried to make these slightly more blurred out – detailed but not as defined as
the foreground. I used mostly bright and bold colours to make the birds stand
out and to represent happiness, light and freedom! I used the same colours that
they were in the pictures but with some images e.g. the birds I made a little brighter
and more colourful to represent freedom better and also to add me detail.
I think my final piece came out okay but if I were
to do it differently another time, I might start it earlier in the weeks so I’d
have more time to do it on a bigger canvas or add more things in the painting like
more animals and in a lot greater detail; more realistic and 3D.
