In my 63 squares, I chose to do about the freedom of animals as I believe that animals have the right to be happy and comfortable like humans. Also, I love animals.
I included images and quotes I drew, mostly from primary research I got from Pinterest and Tumblr.
I also put some of the squares together on bigger sheets of cartridge paper to make larger scale drawings.
My drawings and research were about animal freedom, animal rights, animal cruelty, animal equality, animal charities etc.
I used a range of media within my work. I tried to use a few different medias on some of the drawings. For example: on the drawing of the horse running, I used coloured pencil for the horse that's in the foreground, and watercolour paint for the silhouettes, grass and sky in the background.
On some of them I just used one media like in the drawing of lions (embracing and in a cage) I only used graphite pencils.
I created a small booklet using 6 of the squares that were black card. The booklet was about animals rights which included two quotes and 4 drawings about free animals and trapped animals.
I did extra work in my spare time in a sketchbook. In the sketchbook I did spider diagrams planning my theme and ideas. I also did drawings/painting about freedom and the themes I was thinking of choosing. I included my final piece ideas in my sketchbook and ideas leading up to that too.
The medias I enjoyed and used the most were coloured pencil and pen/fine liners.
Coloured pencil is quick and easy to use but can give a very realistic & soft effect, and is not messy. Pen is also quick & easy and gives a bold defined effect to the drawings. It is also good for shading and depth using the cross-hatching technique.
