Freedom Project - Primary Research (my photographs & analysis)

I took photos (with a canon camera) of birds i saw outside and animals that are in the wild that humans have no power over. I think birds represent animal freedom the most because birds are the most free animals on earth; they can fly and travel wherever they want to with out nature to give them restrictions e.g. the weather, other animals hunting them etc.

I also took pictures of cages in a Pet Shop that some people keep pets in e.g. Birds, hamsters, gerbils etc. Some people would agree that as all animals originally come from the wild, pets that are caged and cannot roam around when they choose to are not entirely free. Humans choose where and when they can have freedom to leave their cage.
Pets don't have their own free will in everything.

However pets are free in some ways; they are used to being in their environments. If we were to put an animal that is a pet in the wild, it might not live it's life to the full and would not be healthy because it has adapted and evolved to being looked after by humans; and wouldn't know how to survive.

Some pets like 'Cats' have a lot of freedom to go out of their homes, be outside and go wherever they like. The humans are still in control because they are the ones who have to let the cat out of the house; but the cats have free will to come back to the house where it lives so the fact that cats come back and do not go into the wild shows that they are happy in their habitat and many people will agree that happiness and comfort is part of freedom.

I took pictures of insects (fly, spiders) and animals at a zoo who are not free; they are trapped in cages for people to come and look at as a sort of entertainment. They are well looked after and are not in any distress, however they are not in their natural environments. Some people will argue that all wild animals should be left in the wild as they are not truly free otherwise. Other people might think that they still have freedom in a zoo because they are happy and might not know any different if they have been born and raised there by humans.
