Throughout this Art course I have experimented with different medias/techniques and have achieved and progressed over the past two years. I have learned to work quicker to accomplish the goals of a set time period while creating generally detailed work at a very good standard. The medias I have used in this course consist of Graphite Pencil, Charcoal Pencil, Coloured Pencil, Water-colour Pencil, Biro Pen, Fine-liner Pen, Water-colour paint, Acrylic Paint, Oil Pastels, Chalk Pastels, Magazine Cuttings, Coloured Card, Coloured Paper (newspaper and other materials. I have also used a variety of techniques including Crosshatching, Pointillism, Impasto, Sgraffito and Collage. This course has given me the opportunity to explore a new range of media and techniques that I may not have usually chosen to by my own account – for example I had not heard of Gouache and Sgraffito until the first year of this art course introduced me to them; Gouache is another type of paint similar to acrylic, and Sgraffito is a technique usually done with oil pastels and black acrylic paint. I now also have stronger knowledge of particular artists, illustrators and designers such as ‘John Banovich’ (Painter), ‘Paul Klee’ (40’s painter), ‘Mary GrandePre’ (Illustrator) and ‘Bonnie Cashin’ (40’s clothes designer) etc. The pathway I have chosen is ‘Fine Art’ – because painting and drawing are my strongest abilities and are what I enjoy the most. I work the quickest and achieve my most profound outcomes within the ‘Fine Art’. In my last FMP project, I will work with a range of different media and techniques to make my work creative. This will show a variety of my practical skills, techniques and methods.
Section 2 - Project Concept (250 words)
For my FMP theme, I have chosen ‘Animals in their
Habitats’ because drawing animals and plants are what I enjoy the most and work
the quickest on – I would also like to learn about different animal’s
environments and how they adapt to their Habitats. This project will consist of
Primary and Secondary research, artist research/analysis sheets, critical
studies, A3 Sketchbook, drawing from observation, design sheets, mood boards,
blog posts, time management sheets and annotations of all research and
drawings. Some artists I may use for this project include: Andy Goldsworthy,
Jim Dratfield, John Banovich, David Lloyd, Peter Clarke and Tony Fitzpatrick
etc. These are Animal and Wildlife/Landscape painters, collage artists,
sculptors and photographers. My sketchbook will include Primary research of
photographs I take myself from places such as ‘Sea life centre’, ‘Cannon Hall
farm’, Zoos and Museums that I visit; my own pets, friend’s pets and
wildlife/plants locally around where I live. I will gather secondary research
and images from online websites, magazines and books. My sketchbook will also
include my observational drawings of animals and their habitats (where I will
experiment with different medias and techniques), primary artist research,
critical studies and design developments. I will leave space on each page of my
sketchbook for annotations as I progress through it. The mind maps I have
produced in the beginning of my sketchbook show how my initial ideas have
evolved and developed into a more appropriate theme for this FMP. As my ideas
change I record all ideas and research in my daily record sheets which I post
on my blog whenever I complete a week’s worth of records/targets.
Section 3 - Evaluation (100 words)
My
blog posts, Pinterest posts, time management sheets and notebook will be how I
will evaluate what I accomplish and achieve every day. Daily records will allow
me to see where I am in the project, what I need to improve on and how far from
the deadline I am – this will make a big impact on my organisation; helping me
manage my time in a basic, structural way. In my blog I will continuously include
images of my work and state processes I undertake, things I am enjoying, things
that go wrong and how I will progress. Secondary research I take from Pinterest
will be put on a board called ‘Animals in their Habitats’ as that’s my FMP
title and makes this board easily recognisable. My time management sheets will
explain my exact plans for each day, what limited me, what I achieved and what
I need to do next session. A notebook will be used for ideas I come up with; I
will bullet point notes to help me annotate my work and jot down what I need to
do before setting it out in detail on target sheets/blog to make things easier.
